The Client

An 87 year old Canadian born male (6 feet tall, 175 pounds) who only speaks and understands English, with prostrate cancer, a heart condition, vision problems, hearing problems, back problems and mobility problems.

Major Job Duties

Monitor, record and report to employer changes in elderly client’s mobility, cognition and general health; Prepare, cook and serve client three meals daily; Feed or assist in feeding; Administer bedside and personal care; Change non-sterile dressings; Administer medications; Collect specimens; Assist to dress and undress as required; Assist into and out of bed as required; Assist in toileting as required; Assist to walk; Aid with bathing and other aspects of personal hygiene; Assist client who is permanently catheterized change from leg bags to night bags and visa versa; Shop for food and household supplies; Launder clothing and household linens; Perform light housekeeping and house cleaning; Provide personal care; Provide companionship; Drive household vehicle; Attend with client to doctors appointments and procedures to assist client; Perform light duty gardening; Move household garbage to street on garbage collection days; Assume full responsibility for household (in absence of householder).

Salary and Working Conditions

Employment contract based on Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA).  Wage is $10.65  with a 41.25 hour work week spread over five (5) days (8.25 hrs per day) Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday off.  Unpaid health and meal breaks are provided daily.  12 unpaid sick days per year. 14 paid vacation days per year. Statutory and public holidays off with pay. All applicable payroll taxes deducted and submitted to government by employer.

This is a live-in position only. There is a paid, on-call element of the job to cover medical emergencies. The employee is required to live and sleep at the residence of service, except during scheduled days off.

Room and Board

Furnished private second story bedroom 12 ft X 14 ft with keyed lock and deadbolt provided in the residence of service for $63.40 bi-weekly. The room charge includes telephone (must pay your own long distance charges), radio and television. Meals provided for $107.10 bi-weekly. Total room and board are $170.50 bi-weekly.

The successful applicant must be in Canada legally and be entitled to work legally in Canada, be Bondable, provide a clear Criminal record check, and have a clear Tuberculosis test.
